When putting together a basic wardrobe with pieces that can be worn over and over again, it’s important to choose high-quality clothes that can stand up to wear and washing.
But how can you tell them apart? How do you know if what you want to buy is worth it? Watch out for these simple tips:
Put the item of clothing up to the light. The quality of the fabric goes down as it becomes more see-through.
The test of folds. For a few seconds, squeeze the fabric and then let go. Unless the item is made of linen, it’s best to leave a wrinkled item alone.
Pay attention to the zippers. A good quality garment has a zipper that is hidden, well-done, and the same color as the fabric.
Check the stitching. Look at how the collar, cuffs, and hems are done. The seam should be as tight as possible.
Look at the labels. Check to see what the fabric is made of. The amount of cotton, wool, or silk should be higher than the amount of man-made fibers.
Check the buttons and where they go. If they don’t fit right or the seams don’t look good, that’s not a good sign.
If the price is too low, you should be wary. Most of the time, the materials used to make a good-quality, well-made garment make it cost more.
